At CBRC, our passion and expertise lie in helping the dogs that many others turn away: the high-level reactives. These are dogs who don’t just bark at the postman—they might lunge, snap, or panic at the sight of a stranger, another dog, or even a new environment. So, why do we focus on these challenging cases, and what makes our approach different?

Because Every Dog Deserves a Chance

We believe that no dog should be written off because of their behaviour. High-level reactivity is rarely a choice; it’s a response rooted in fear, genetics, past trauma, or simply being misunderstood. Too often, these dogs are labelled as “dangerous,” “bad,” or “hopeless,” and their options for help become vanishingly slim.

Our mission has always been to provide a lifeline for dogs at the end of the road—to offer hope, understanding, and real solutions where others see only problems.

Why We Take on the Toughest Cases

– Specialist Knowledge: Our team has years of hands-on experience and ongoing professional development in canine behaviour, trauma, and rehabilitation. We know how to work safely and compassionately with dogs who have complex needs.
– Ethical Methods: We use only force-free, evidence-based approaches. High-level reactives need trust, patience, and positive reinforcement, not punishment or intimidation.
– Individualised Plans: No two reactive dogs are the same. We create tailored behaviour programmes that respect each dog’s triggers, history, and learning style.
– Support for Owners: We know it’s not just the dogs who struggle—owners of high-level reactives often feel isolated, judged, and overwhelmed. Our job is to support both ends of the lead with empathy and practical advice.

The Impact: Transforming Lives

We’ve seen first-hand how the right approach can change everything. Dogs who once lived in a state of constant fear or frustration can learn to trust, relax, and even enjoy life again. For many families, working with us is the difference between heartbreak and hope.

Our Commitment

Choosing to specialise in high-level reactives isn’t the easy path—but it’s the one that matters most to us. These are the dogs who need our skills, patience, and belief the most. We’re here to show that with the right support, even the most reactive dog can make progress.

In summary: We work with high-level reactive dogs because they deserve a chance, just like any other. At CBRC, we’re committed to giving these dogs—and their owners—the hope, tools, and understanding they need for a better future.

“Milo has come such a long way since her stay with joy! We now have stress free walks where Milo is calm and collected, a happy home environment where Milo knows her place and has a great routine. She has confidence and is able to meet and socialise with other dogs and people without reacting.
Joy is such an amazing person who truly cares about the dogs she takes into her care, her communication is fantastic and is always available when needed. She’ll always message to see how things are going even after a rehab stay! which really put my mind at ease.” Lauren Hudson.

“Finn had a six week stay at Joys, he needed to decompress from day to day life as he had become very unpredictable and this led to him biting my wife very badly. Joy worked on him watching life go by. The weekly diaries are excellent as they allow you to get a progress report, see your pet and normally include a video. Weekly check ins are included upon getting your pet back. Finn required prescription drugs so Joy arranged with the vet to get these and sent them to me.” Stuart Crisp.

After an incident and years of trying to manage Murphy’s reactivity to strangers and dogs we felt our only option was to check Murphy in for rehab. I had been following CBRC for many years so knew about all the good work they did. Murphy was away from us for 7 weeks which was really tough but it was one of the best things we could have done for him. It acted as a reset for him and us and things are so much better now. I’m no longer filled with dread on our walks waiting for him to react. Murphy and I now have the skills to deal with most situations without causing him stress. He’ll never like strangers but we manage it much better than before and he’s a much happier boy! We love that we can check Murphy in for boarding when we go on holiday too!…” Murphy Boston.
