Finding the right support for a dog with behavioural challenges can be overwhelming. At CBRC, based in the heart of Devon, we offer a lifeline for dogs and owners who need more than just standard training. Our kennels and rehabilitation centre are dedicated to helping dogs with complex behavioural needs find safety, stability, and a fresh start.

What Makes CBRC Different?

– Specialist Behavioural Support: We’re not just a boarding kennel. Our team specialises in working with dogs who are anxious, reactive, fearful, or have a history of trauma. Every dog receives an individualised rehabilitation plan, tailored to their unique needs.
– Force-Free, Evidence-Based Methods: All our approaches are ethical and science-backed—no punishment, no intimidation. We focus on building trust and confidence, using positive reinforcement every step of the way.
– Licensed Boarding Facilities: Our kennels are fully licensed and designed with the welfare of high-needs dogs in mind. We provide a calm, structured environment that helps dogs decompress and feel secure.
– Ongoing Support: Our relationship with clients doesn’t end when a dog leaves our centre. We offer remote support for as long as it’s needed and welcome returning dogs for skills top-ups or specialist boarding.

Services We Offer

– Residential Rehabilitation Stays: Intensive, hands-on support for dogs needing a reset—typically over a four-week stay. Our team works daily with each dog to address issues like reactivity, separation anxiety, aggression, and trauma.
– One-to-One Behavioural Support: Available across Devon, Dorset, and Somerset, either at your home or in secure dog fields. Perfect for ongoing progress after a residential stay or for dogs who need targeted help in their everyday environment.
– Specialist Boarding: For dogs who have completed rehabilitation or need a safe place to stay, we offer boarding with the same high level of understanding and care.
– Physical Rehabilitation: Under veterinary guidance, we support dogs recovering from procedures—especially those who are touch-sensitive or reactive.

Our Mission

CBRC was founded to offer a lifeline for dogs who might otherwise be out of options. Many of the dogs we help have already tried other trainers or behaviourists, or have been labelled “unfixable.” Our mission is to show that, with patience, expertise, and the right environment, every dog can make progress.

What to Expect

– A caring, qualified team dedicated to your dog’s wellbeing
– Weekly update diaries via our private Facebook group
– A focus on communication, trust, and practical progress
– Ongoing advice and support, even after your dog returns home

In summary: If you’re looking for more than just a kennel, CBRC in Devon is here to help. We specialise in giving hope to dogs and owners facing the toughest behavioural challenges—because every dog deserves a second chance.

We have had Rascal home for 5 days, after his 5 week rehab stay .
We have a much calmer and confident dog. More independent at home, not following us around everywhere we go. He is also sleeping better .
He was even brave enough to go swimming and duck diving for the first time yesterday! It was amazing to see him enjoying himself.
It is invaluable to have Joy’s ongoing support now we are at home.
Can’t thank Joy enough.” Kirsty Drummond.

“Our German Shepard Kyler has very high reactivity towards strangers and dogs, which made kennels a really stressful experience for him overall. We are extremely grateful to have found CBRC, from the first visit and the regular detailed reports of Kyler, it is clear that this is a kennel that really cares about dog welfare. Joy is absolutely amazing and experienced, managing to handle Kyler patiently and gain trust, something we were really worried about as previous kennels kept a muzzle on him at all times and did not seem to look after Kyler as well. It is because of Joy’s experience and CBRC being so dedicated to all dogs, calm ones as well as very reactive ones, that we are happy to drive so far away to this kennel. Would definitely recommend, especially if you have a reactive dog that needs the extra care that CBRC gives!” Jerry Jiang.

“My dog Geoffrey is a rescue dog from the streets of Bosnia. He is a very nervous boy which results in fear aggression with unknown dogs and people. I was finding it difficult to handle him, but since sending Geoff to CBRC, Joy and the amazing team have worked really hard and Geoff is so much better than he was. Geoff went for an initial behavioural stay and since then he regularly goes back for boarding when I am away for work. He is better on the lead, becoming less and less reactive and his confidence has grown. I couldn’t have got to where we are right now without the amazing care and expertise of Joy and all at CBRC! I couldn’t recommend them enough!” Geoffrey’s Mum.
