At CBRC, rehabilitation is far more than simply training a dog to behave. It is a holistic, compassionate process focused on restoring a dog’s emotional, psychological, and physical well-being—especially for those who have experienced trauma, behavioural challenges, or have been failed by conventional methods.

Purpose of Rehabilitation:

The primary goal is to provide a lifeline for dogs who are struggling—whether due to fear, anxiety, aggression, or deep-seated trauma—offering them a genuine chance at a better life. Rehabilitation at CBRC is about helping dogs learn to trust again, adapt to new environments, and develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a home or community setting.

What Rehabilitation Means at CBRC:

Individualised Support: Every dog’s journey is unique. Rehabilitation plans are tailored to the specific needs, history, and temperament of each dog, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Behavioural Transformation: The process addresses complex behavioural issues such as reactivity, guarding, aggression, separation anxiety, and phobias. The aim is not just to suppress unwanted behaviours, but to understand their root causes and help the dog develop healthier coping strategies.

Emotional Healing: Many dogs at CBRC come from backgrounds of neglect, abuse, or chronic stress. Rehabilitation provides a safe, structured environment where they can decompress, recover, and learn that people and the world can be safe and positive.

Force-Free Methods: CBRC is committed to force-free, positive reinforcement techniques, ensuring that every interaction builds trust and reduces fear. This approach helps dogs learn through encouragement, not punishment.

Skill Building: Rehabilitation includes teaching practical skills—such as socialisation, touch therapy, harness and muzzle training, and adaptation to new people or environments—so dogs are equipped for real-world situations.

Ongoing Support: The process doesn’t end when a dog leaves the centre. CBRC provides continued remote support and skills top-ups to ensure lasting success and integration into their new lives.

In Summary:

Rehabilitation at CBRC is about giving each dog another chance—addressing the whole dog, not just the symptoms. It’s a process rooted in empathy, expertise, and a deep commitment to animal welfare, helping even the most affected dogs find hope, healing, and a future beyond what they or their owners thought possible.

“My dog Geoffrey is a rescue dog from the streets of Bosnia. He is a very nervous boy which results in fear aggression with unknown dogs and people. I was finding it difficult to handle him, but since sending Geoff to CBRC, Joy and the amazing team have worked really hard and Geoff is so much better than he was. Geoff went for an initial behavioural stay and since then he regularly goes back for boarding when I am away for work. He is better on the lead, becoming less and less reactive and his confidence has grown. I couldn’t have got to where we are right now without the amazing care and expertise of Joy and all at CBRC! I couldn’t recommend them enough!”

“I have always been in rescue and recently had a call for help regarding a young pup. He had nowhere to go, and the reports I was getting regarding his behaviour were a concern. I rang Joy and she agreed he could come for training. It gave everyone breathing space, if he was to be rehomed I’d have a clear behaviour assessment, and he’d get a chance to rest, decompress, and have a reset as a pup. He went to the kennels for a 6 week period. His care was excellent, and Joy kept us updated. It was decided he would stay with his owners who travelled down and had a 1 to 1 hand over and continued support from the centre once home. It is such a brilliant resource to use: knowledgeable, professional team that help dogs and their owners stay together. Thank you.” Gill Lewis

Joy’s compassionate approach, combined with her commitment to positive, force-free methods, has transformed countless dogs’ lives. She excels in the dog training and rescue industry, working with dogs many trainers would avoid. Her dedication and skill make her an invaluable asset, and I wholeheartedly recommend her.”
