WELCOME TO THE CANINE BEHAVIOUR REHABILITATION CENTRE
The Canine Behaviour Rehabilitation Centre began at my animal sanctuary in 2015 when I realised there was a gap in the system and a dire need for a service aimed specifically at dogs that were having issues in the home. Last year I moved this service away from my sanctuary into licenced boarding kennels for rescues and owners alike. We have a wide range of experience which covers all breeds, from the biggest to the smallest. I take in dogs for temporary rehabilitation stays, typically circa 6 weeks to be assessed, understood, rehabilitated, and prepared to go back out to their homes or their respective rescues again with new skills and new hope.
In most cases this unique service offers them their last chance to gain help for animals which would otherwise be put to sleep and has been hugely successful and worked very well in the most part with only a few dogs being unable to go back to a home environment, mainly due to special homes being very hard to find.
When everything else has been tried we are a lifeline that can help with so many issues including the usual everyday ones through to multi-level deep rooted behaviours.
OUR RESIDENTIAL SERVICE COVERS BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
- General behavioural issues
- Fear and phobias covering re-activeness of all levels to humans/animals/ inter dog and environment.
- Stress and anxiety
- Guarding issues of people, space, objects, and possessions.
- Aggression and Separation anxiety.
- Deep rooted trauma.
- General environmental fears e.g., of noise, objects, domestic life.
- Abuse and severe trauma due to cruelty/neglect.
- General commands and basic training/lead training and on lead manners.
- Touch therapy - taught and learnt touch with safe words for your dog.
- On site human social meets - we have a range of male and female staff that help with adaption to new people.
- General socialisation issues, harness and muzzle training.
AND WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT YOU REMOTELY ONCE YOUR DOG IS HOME FOR HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES.
We can also help with physical rehabilitation for reactive dogs (under vet guidance) where owners may struggle with post procedure rehabilitation due to touch reactivity or general reactivity. For instance, dogs that are unable to attend hydrotherapy clinics due to behavioural issues and can’t follow a physical exercise programme or dogs needing walking rehabilitation and regeneration of muscles and body movement.

Non-residential rehabilitation training is also available for owners living in most parts of London, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset. Our non-residential option can be carried out in your own home/area, or we can arrange a secure dog field to work in. We focus on assessing your dog and equipping you with the skills to bond with your dog and work on their issues using our force free methods. Every dog is different, and their personalities are determined by breed, genetics, their upbringing, their experiences, and their environment. Helping owners understand their dogs and their issues and how to work with them, empowers them to move forward and help their dogs with confidence. Having a dog with issues can be confusing, frustrating, heart breaking, and frightening, we can help you get to the root cause and help you to understand and move forward.
SPECIALIST BOARDING.
Do you have an anxious dog? One with behaviour issues? One that is people reactive? Animal reactive? Do you find it hard to board them when you need some respite or are off on holiday? We have specific experience of and cater for dogs with all sorts of issues that make it impossible for you to catch a break and we are happy to board your dog, no matter his or her issue. So, if you need to leave your friend in complete confidence, knowing that they will be safe, happy and have fun then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We also offer holiday cover/respite boarding for dogs who have previously been with us for rehabilitation. Coming back to us after rehab is a home from home for them as they know us and the kennels, so they easily transition and a top up on skills is of course included!

Rehabilitation is by definition 'The action of restoring something that has been damaged to its former condition, of restoring to health or normal life through training and therapy.'
Rehabilitation is an umbrella term for us that covers so much; understanding, empathy, time, patience, restoration of trust and faith in humans, building on skill sets and communication. Dogs have the ability to relearn, rebuild, and reinvent part of themselves through rehabilitation and to leave us the best dog they can be, functioning safely and happily in the home again. Of course, there are no guarantees with the severely affected dogs we try to help but, to watch a dog over time learn and move from severe fear, mistrust or over reaction into becoming a more rounded, complete happy dog who is able to meet the world calmly is the most fantastic journey for the dog and for us. It's a journey that if not returns the dog to its "former state" then readies him to safely handle the world, his surroundings and people with the required skills and live as a HAPPY, healthy dog; happier inside and out.
